The file extensions .jpg
and .jpeg
refer to images and represent the same format - JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group). This format remains one of the most popular formats for storing compressed images to this day.
In the past, operating systems supported only three characters after the dot as a file format (e.g., DOS). In modern OS, this issue is no longer a problem, and therefore, file extensions can be specified in two variations - .jpg
and .jpeg
.
Technically, the only difference between .jpg
and .jpeg
is the number of letters, but in terms of image format and content, they are completely identical.
